How Tall is Rick from Rick and Morty?

How Tall is Rick from Rick and Morty?

Rick Sanchez is the crazy smart and totally wacky grandpa from the popular cartoon Rick and Morty. With his wild blue hair, lab coat and portal gun, Rick takes Morty on insane adventures across the multiverse! But have you ever wondered about Rick’s height when he’s not dimension-hopping? Read on to get the inside scoop!

Comparing Rick to Other Characters

We can estimate Rick’s height by looking at how he stacks up next to other people in the show. Rick’s grandson Morty Smith is the easiest for comparison since they’re together all the time.

Morty is 14 years old and looks pretty average for his age. So we can assume Morty stands at an average 5 feet tall.

When Rick and Morty are side-by-side, the top of Morty’s head comes up to about Rick’s chin or nose level. Knowing Morty’s height, that would make lanky Rick roughly 6 feet 1 inch to 6 feet 3 inches tall!

We can also compare Rick to his daughter Beth who is an adult woman. Beth seems to come up just above Rick’s shoulder height-wise. The average American woman is 5 foot 4. Once again that would put Rick around 6 feet 1 or 6 feet 2 inches based on how he stacks up.

Rick’s Official Height Explained

The creator of Rick and Morty is Justin Roiland. He and the show’s producers confirmed in an interview that the official height for Rick Sanchez is 6 feet 1 inch (or 185 cm).

So all our estimating matches the official source! They describe Rick as a “tall, lanky old man” which the 6’1″ measurement fits perfectly.

This height also makes sense when you look at where the top of his hair spikes reach compared to doorways and ceilings in the Smith family home. A 6 footer would have less clearance with his tall hairdo!

Height Fluctuations in the Show?

Even though Rick’s confirmed height is 6’1″, he can seem shorter or taller in certain scenes. Why does his stature appear to change?

Animation Inconsistencies

Animating is complex – characters are drawn differently between episodes based on the storyboard artist. So Rick might shift an inch or two scene to scene.

Perspective Angles

Characters filmed from low or high angles seem shorter or taller. The camera zooming in close can also warp proportions temporarily.

Other Dimensions

Since Rick enters different realities, he could take on that world’s art style, changing his proportions.

Morty’s Growth Spurts

As Morty ages through the show, he gets taller. So Rick can start off seeming way taller compared to his tiny grandson, but appear to shrink as the gap closes.

Short Rick from Tiny Rick Episode

The most dramatic shift in Rick’s height happens in Season 2 when he transfers his mind into a clone version of his younger self, nicknamed “Tiny Rick.”

Teenage Rick looks drastically shorter compared to his older self as a shrunken down pint-sized mad scientist.

Tiny Rick is under 5 feet tall, possibly only 4’5″ or 4’6″! No wonder Summer has to help Tiny Rick reach the high shelves in the garage.

So in his normal form, Rick stands at 6’1″ but he shows he can science himself into other sizes when he wants to! He’ll always be the tall, crazy-haired grandpa Morty looks up to no matter what dimension they’re in!
